What got to me though was the idea that because Christian was maybe kind of a shitty boyfriend, who despite wanting to break up with someone he saw as clingy and a little messed up stuck with Dany through the worst trauma you can imagine going through with any kind of partner, that somehow he deserved what he got. He was drugged and raped, pulled into that hut by whatever cocktail the cult had given him. His horror at what he was doing - and you cannot argue that he enjoyed what happened in any way - is visible as he moves into the room, surrounded by women in a ritual he does not understand but is unable to stop. Christian's sin was that he was a kid who didn't love Dany, who wanted to break up but didn't because she'd just gone through this awful thing in her life. I was horrified at the ease with which Dany was willing to let him go, to give up his life because his perceived infidelity had so wounded her. She was groomed by the cult to give him up, to cut him away and view him as disposable because now she was surrounded by people who loved her, who honored her, who felt her pain as Christian so obviously could not, did not and never would. It was for this sin that Christian and all of the cult's victims were sacrificed. My horror at this movie was that Christian, and the others by proxy, was given such short shrift by Dany and by the viewer. Oh, we are meant to think, he was a crappy bf who was going to leave her so TORCH THE ASSHOLE! Christian had done nothing to Dany beyond not love her. For that he gets screwed by the cult girl, by the cult, by Dany and by the audience. I'm a woman and I was horrified by what reviewers and commentators said about Christian and the lack of examination regarding the suitability of his ultimate fate.

I honnestly disagree with you. I think the main interest from this movie is the atmosphere that it releases. I liked it, it's odd and is obvioulsy a criticism of the SJW state of mind. 1:30 🤮🤮. I'm a little late in commenting so I'm not sure if you'll notice this but as a cult survivor myself, I appreciate this video and explanation so much. I was born and raised by people who were recruited into the cult so for many years I knew little outside of its parameters of thought. While it was a bible-based cult, the tactics were all the same. At the time of its inception in the 80s, nearly all of the recruits were Gen-X teenagers from dysfunctional and abusive households. It was no wonder people like my parents were so susceptible to believing the cult when they were told how evil the world outside was. Anyone looking in would think we were just another suburban church with a warm and welcoming community with many finding great happiness and love upon joining. They thought they found their happy ending. Until shit would get real. Real fast. By the 90s most of those teens grew up and had families within the cult. Soon the very childhood dysfunction and abuse they sought to escape was reframed as child training to be further perpetuated. The very trauma that compelled them to seek out the cult continued in the next lot of children. The slightest things could be utilised by those in charge to inflict extreme sanctions upon adult and child alike. There were public humiliations, deliverances, relationships forced apart, forced marriage, and excommunications alike. This was no happy ending. Time outside the cult has shown me that while those years were certainly my worst, there's still a lot left to be desired with how things are in the world right now. We need to continue the fight for things like equality, better grassroots communities, healthier communication and emotional expression being championed, a sense of freedom of individuality that allows people to contribute greatly within their communities rather than the selfish individualism so often pushed, and a vigilance that prevents harmful actions being perpetuated in the name of belief. Society's flaws drive vulnerable people into the arms of abusive structures, be it a romantic partner, toxic friendship, or a cult. Continuing such a toxic cycle does not make for a happy ending.
